St. Joseph North Pier Inner and Outer Lights

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of Lighthouse Tours! Come visit us on the North Pier, chat with our team of Lighthouse Docents, learn about our area’s maritime history, and even explore the inside of the Inner Light.

Scheduling for private tours and online ticket sales for the 2024 season will open on Wednesday, May 15, 2024!
Public Lighthouse Hours:

Memorial Day Weekend – Labor Day Weekend (May 24 – September 2)

The main level, exhibit, and introductory tour are free.

Ticketed Experiences:
Public Tours ($10/person)

Guided Walking Tour. Guided walking tours start at Tiscornia Beach, move along the North Pier to the Outer Light, and then concluding with a climb to the top of the Inner Light. Offered at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday during Public Hours for $10 per person.

Inner Light Climb Only. In a rush and want to skip the guided North Pier tour? The opportunity to climb to the top of the Inner Light is available for $10 per person during Public Hours.

Private Tours ($20/person)

Available May 20 – October 15 by appointment.

Private Tours. Private Tours begin with a guided tour of the exhibits at The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center on Main Street in St. Joseph, to include the Fresnel lenses that safely guided vessels into our harbor for over 100 years. The private tour then moves to the St. Joseph North Pier, for a guided journey through St. Joseph and Benton Harbor’s maritime past. The private tour concludes at the Inner Light with a climb to the top. Private tours must be scheduled in advance with our Lighthouse Coordinator.

Old St. Joseph Neighborhood Historic Walking Tour

The Historic Homes of Old St. Joseph

The Heritage is exited to announce the return of the Historic Homes of Old St. Joseph Guided Walking Tour, led by renowned architect and St. Joseph native Stephen Byrns. This ninety-minute tour begins at 10:00 AM on Sunday, July 2nd at Bear Park, located at the southwest corner of State and Market Streets. The tour concludes at The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. The Heritage would like to thank Mr. Byrns for donating his time and expertise for this special fundraising experience.
